Is it a shutter, awning, or screen

We need to determine the size of the shutter you are using. You can help determine that by either measuring the size manually or by letting us know the size of the box it’s contained in.

Are the shutters either bigger than 100 ft2 (?), or is the box containing it more than 8 inches by 8 inches?

Are you able to see a motor head on one end of your awning?

Take a look at the outlet that your awning or shutter is plugged into. Is it a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) outlet that looks similar to the ones in this image?

Are you able to locate the circuit breaker?

If so, is it a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) circuit breaker that looks similar to the ones in this image?

We need to test your GFCI outlet to see if it’s operational.

If you have a GFCI outlet tester, please check the outlet and see if power is working. If you don’t have a GFCI tester, you can test the outlet by hand. There are three simple steps:
  • There should be two rectangular buttons between the two power outlets. Press the test button with your finger. You should hear a snap sound, which will mean that the power is cut off from the two outlets.
  • To make sure the power is shut off, plug in a lamp, radio or other handy device. If the power no longer transmits, the GFCI safety function is working properly.
  • If the safety function is working, now hit the Reset button to restore power to the outlets.
After testing the outlets, is your GFCI functioning properly?

If you can safely reach the outlet, please disconnect the power and discontinue any use of the motorized awning/shutter. Note that as long as it is disconnected from power, you can still operate the shutter/awning by using the manual override system.

Before disconnecting power cautiously consider whether other health or safety equipment are linked to the same circuit.
